For his first solo exhibition, Kelly selects thirty paintings and reliefs made while in Paris between 1949 and 1951. Kelly is one of the first to exhibit at Galerie Arnaud, a newly opened space in the cellar of a bookstore established for the purpose of representing the younger generation of artists in Paris. Inspired by his new surroundings while in France, the exhibition features Kelly’s first abstractions extrapolated from nature and architecture, such as Window, Museum of Modern Art, Paris. He titles the exhibition in French, Kelly, peintures et reliefs and even titles and dates the works in French in the exhibition checklist.
Kelly, peintures et reliefs at Galerie Arnaud in Paris opens April 26 through May 9.
