Organized by the International Art Program of the National Collection of Fine Arts, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C., through the generosity of a grant from the National Endowment on the Arts, this exhibition of contemporary works by American artists has been assembled for the 1966 Venice Biennial. Associate Curator of American Painting and Sculpture of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Henry Geldzahler, chose four painters for the U.S. representation at the Biennial’s 33rd exhibition, including Jules Olitski, Helen Frankenthaler, Roy Lichtenstein and Ellsworth Kelly. Works presented include his first shaped canvas, Yellow Piece and two floor pieces, White Angle and Blue Red.
The thirty-third International Biennial in Venice opens June 18 through October 16.
