The Barnes Foundation presents Ellsworth Kelly: Sculpture on the Wall, the inaugural exhibition at its new museum in Philadelphia. Barnes Totem, a 40-foot abstract sculpture by Ellsworth Kelly stands by a reflecting pool near the entrance. The sculpture was commissioned by the Neubauer family for the grounds of the Barnes Foundation’s new building designed by architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien.
“The works in Ellsworth Kelly: Sculpture on the Wall demonstrate the artist’s interest in the intersection of art and architecture, color and form, figure and ground. Sculpture for a Large Wall, the exhibition’s monumental centerpiece, was originally installed in the Philadelphia Transportation Building and has returned to the city for this distinct exhibition for the first time since 1998.” (Barnes Foundation, May 2013)
Ellsworth Kelly: Sculpture on the Wall curated by Judith Dolkart is presented at the Barnes Foundation from May 4 through September 30.
