Blue Curve IV
Five Studies for 1st Curve Series, 1972, Graphite on paper
Ellsworth Kelly at his Coenties Slip studio, New York, 1961
For more than seven decades Ellsworth Kelly pursued a singular artistic vision built upon keen observation. Through his precise deployment of color and form, he deftly transformed the world around him into his art. For Kelly, nothing was too insignificant to consider, whether the curve of a leaf, the angle of a bent knee, or the shadow of a sign on the road.
This first online exhibition of Kelly’s work concentrates on his 1972 painting Blue Curve IV, together with fifteen related works on paper. Made between 1948 and 1985, they show the curve, in all its variations, as central to his art.[More Information]
